Principle of attack in football

Retaining Possession

Retaining possession in football can be done in several ways, for example when in possession of the ball you can have do short passes and take little amount of touches on the ball so that you don’t get crowded by the opposition. Also you can protect the ball by having touches and controlling the ball away from your opponent and it is also give to have a bigger range of passing to vary your options.  Always move around to try and create space for you and your teammates. Lastly if cant play the ball forwards you can play the ball sideways. Lastly you should not rush or force your passes either. Players should also interchange positions on the pitch.

Progression towards the goal

To progress up the field in football you can play quick passes and move the ball quickly by having less touches. Also do 1-2 passes in between the gaps of the defence and midfield. Also if you have target man you can play the ball in to them so that they can hold up the ball so that other teammates can come in to give support. Wingers should stay out wide to provide width and create space within the midfield so that you can push forward. There should be runners trying to get beyond the defensive lines but making diagonal runs.

Finishing

In football there are several approaches you can make to create chances to score. wingers should take on the full back, beat them and then cross the ball in where he players should push into the box. Another way to create chances is by having runners trying to get beyond the defensive line by making diagonal runs to stay onside to score. Also you don’t have to go close to score so this means a player can get half a yard of his opponent before shooting to get a clear shot and also you do 1-2 passes with your teammates so that they could potentially lay you off for a shot.

principles of defence in football

regaining possession

to regain possession in football you could do different marking tactics such as man to man marking where each player marks a certain player and follows their movement and sticks close to their opponent so that if they receive the ball they won’t be given time on the ball. another tactic is zonal marking where you work mark space that a player might run into so that if the ball tries to get played into the space you are there to intercept the pass.  two man pressing is another effective tactic as it includes two players pressing one player on the ball which give him left time and space which makes it harder for him to keep possession of the ball.

Preventing Progression

One way to prevent progression in football is that you can do zonal marking to cut down the passing lanes in between your defence. Also you should have a compact defence which means that your defence is more tight allowing for less gaps in between your defence making it harder for your opposition to play in between those spaces. Lastly your team can use the tactic of parking the bus where you everyone is behind the ball and everyone is pressing the ball individually and sits back on the edge of the 18 yard box.

Defending the goal

Tactics used in defending the goal is that you can park the bus which blocks the chances for players to run in behind the defence and do quick passes in between the lines of the defence and midfield. Also when defending don’t dive into challenges and clear when you have the chance to buy some time to recover. Communicate with your fellow defenders and try to force your attacker to make a mistake. Stay goal side of your attackers and always look over your shoulder. Wait until a player makes a mistakes and watch the ball and don’t let your opponent turn. also when defending cut out passing lanes and follow your opponent and have shape within the defensive line and lastly stay on your toes. Also if a player shoots try to block the shot or get the rebound and clear the ball away from danger.
